ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Nowcasting and Mesoscale Research (NMR) and the Societal Economic Research Applications (SERA) Working Groups from the WMO World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) as well as the EUMETNET (European National Meteorological and Hydrological Services Network) Nowcasting Programme (E-NWC), led a research activity focused on the nowcasting capabilities and the Early Warning Systems (EWS) in the different WMO Regional Associations. National Meteorological and Hydrological Services across the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe were surveyed in 2021 and 2022.
Nowcasting
Nowcasting is defined as “forecasting with local detail, by any method, over a period from the present to six hours ahead, including a detailed description of the present” (WMO, 2019).
